Heavy Periods: You Do Not Have to Plan Life Around Leaks

Missing work or avoiding activities because of bleeding is worth a medical conversation.
Recognise a heavy pattern
Signs include changing a pad or tampon every one to two hours, needing two products together, bleeding through clothes or periods lasting more than seven days.
Bring a short record
Track bleeding days, product changes, clots and pain. Mention tiredness or breathlessness, which may prompt testing for anaemia. Bring your medicine and contraception details.
Ask about your options
Arrange a review if bleeding affects life, persists, or happens between periods or after sex. Several treatments can reduce bleeding; the right option depends on the cause and your circumstances. If bleeding is severe and you feel faint or very unwell, seek urgent care.
