High Blood Sugar: Warning Signs Beyond Thirst

Thirstier than usual? Notice the pattern, and know when to act.
Watch for changes
High blood sugar may cause unusual thirst, frequent urination, tiredness, blurred vision or unexplained weight loss. Symptoms can develop slowly. If you have not been diagnosed with diabetes, arrange a medical assessment.
Use your personal plan
If you have diabetes, check glucose as your care team recommends. Illness, stress and missed medicine can raise it. Follow your agreed sick-day plan; do not independently skip or change medicine doses. Contact your team if readings remain above your target.
Do not wait with these symptoms
Suspected high glucose with vomiting, stomach pain, fast breathing, fruity-smelling breath, confusion, marked drowsiness or high ketones needs emergency care. These can signal a serious complication. Call local emergency services and do not drive yourself.
