STI Testing: Why Feeling Fine Does Not Rule Out Infection
Feeling fine is not a test.
Feeling well does not rule out a sexually transmitted infection. Many STIs cause no obvious symptoms, so testing matters even when nothing feels different.
When to arrange testing
Contact a clinician or sexual health service if you have a new partner, a partner has symptoms, or you are worried after sex without a condom or dental dam. Unusual discharge, sores or pain when peeing also need assessment.
Ask about timing
Tests have different window periods. Tell the clinician when the contact happened and ask which tests and repeat checks you need. Do not delay asking for help.
Protect your partners
Use condoms or dental dams while awaiting assessment. If an infection is diagnosed, follow treatment instructions and advice about avoiding sex. Current and previous partners may need testing and treatment too.
