Diabetes Foot Care: The Daily Check You Should Not Skip
Your feet deserve a daily check.
If you have diabetes, reduced feeling in your feet can make an injury easy to miss. A daily look can help you spot trouble early.
Make it a daily habit
Check the tops, soles and spaces between your toes for cuts, blisters, redness or swelling. Use a mirror or ask someone to help if you cannot see clearly.
Protect your skin
Wash in warm, not hot, water and dry carefully, especially between toes. Moisturise dry skin on the tops and bottoms, but not between toes. Avoid soaking your feet. Wear well-fitting shoes and socks, even indoors, and check inside shoes before putting them on.
Do not wait on a new problem
Contact your healthcare professional promptly about a new wound, blister, or change in colour or temperature. Keep regular foot-care appointments and arrange a comprehensive foot examination at least yearly.
