Asthma Action Plans: Three Questions for Your Next Review

Does your asthma have a plan?

An asthma action plan should make the next step clear. Ask your clinician to write one that matches your exact inhalers and treatment.

What do I use each day?

Confirm which inhaler to use, when and how. Bring your devices to your review so a pharmacist, nurse or doctor can check your technique.

What changes mean I need advice?

Ask what to do if symptoms increase, disturb your sleep or interrupt activities. Keep a copy of the plan on your phone and share it with someone who may help you.

What happens during an attack?

Follow your personalised emergency instructions. Get emergency help if you worsen, do not improve after your prescribed maximum reliever dose, or have an attack without an inhaler. After recovery, arrange an urgent review, ideally within two days.
